(The Philosophy of Karl Popper),Campbell在这一篇文章中第一次提出了“evolutionary epistemology”的提法。
The Logic of Scientific Discovery英文版在1959年才出版,而Campbell在此之前没有读过。】
这再一次验证了Jacob Monod 的冷嘲:“another curious aspect of the theory of evolution is that everybody thinks he understands it” (Monod quoted in Dawkins 1989 [1976], 18)。 Michael Scriven 1959, “Explanation and Prediction in Evolutionary Theory.” Wesley C. Salmon. 1989. “Four Decades of Scientific Explanation.” Minnesota Studies on the Philosophy of Science Vol. 13. University of Minnesota Press.
Hull在他的2001年的文集中,就直接称Campbell为“the father of evolutionary epistemology.”
而Campbell的另一篇文章“Can We Be Scientific in Applied Social Sciences?”
Campbell在“The Experimental Society (1971)”以及他的另一篇短文“The Social Scientists as Methodological Servant of the Experimenting Society”(Policy Studies Journal 1973。该文的主要内容其实是The Experimental Society的一节)中,还明确提出“The Social Scientists as(Methodological)Servant of the Experimenting Society”【社会科学家要做实验型社会的“仆人”】这样的一个理解。 (The Meaning and the Tasks of Social Sciences)的一些理解(见我的“制度设计改变中国”和“改革不可能有共识,改革需要的是知识储备和政治决心”)。
